How to get medication in Mexico

Pharmacies

Every small town in Mexico has at least one pharmacy, and in most cities you will always find a 24-hour pharmacy nearby.

Pharmacies are everywhere, easy to find and generally well stocked. There is always a 24/7 pharmacy near you if you’re in a big city. The most common pharmacies you will see around the country are the Farmacias del Ahorro, a nation-wide chain, and Farmacias Similares, a chain of discount pharmacies with an emblematic mascot, Dr. Simi. Both offer generic substitutes for brand medication at lower prices.

Medication in Mexico can be very cheap, especially compared to the prices of the US. While many people think that you can buy any medication over-the-counter, Mexican pharmacies do require prescriptions for almost all of the same medications that would require a prescription elsewhere.
